Jane Parker...

Jane tells about herself:

"I began learning the violin and piano at age 8, progressing through the grades up to Distinction at grade 8 by the time I was 16. During my school years I played in the County Youth Orchestra and attended Trinity College of Music in London where my passion for improvising and composing was encouraged. I went on to study a music degree at the University of Sheffield and a further Post Graduate qualification in Education at Leeds University. I started my teaching career as a secondary Music, Drama and English teacher, progressing to the post of Head of Music. After the birth of my first child, I joined the Hertfordshire Music Service (HMS) and worked as a Primary Music Consultant (PMC) with an increasing specialism in early years. Keen to further pursue my interest in early years education I re-trained as an early years practitioner and worked as a reception class teacher at Westfield First School, during which time our foundation unit gained the Hertfordshire Quality Standard (QTS) Award, and I gained an insight into the true meaning of creativity."

"Since then I have continued to be a consultant for HMS, as well as a Music Leader for Youth Music and a vocal facilitator involved in delivering the national singing strategy 'Sing Up'. I have been fortunate to work in partnership with Linda Bance as a Music Leader for 'Bedwell Sounds' (a project working with musicians of the Britten Sinfonia and early years practitioners) and more recently 'Music Jigsaw' at World Shapers Children's Centre in Hemel Hempstead."

"I feel passionate about early years music in our community and am extremely excited about launching 'Music with Mum' at Westfield. For more info just ask."
